7 January 2009 193 views No Comment

The First Annual Kingdom Swim is an open water competitive and recreational swim for all skill levels, young and old alike, on Lake Memphremagog in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont – one of ten geotourism areas in the world designated by National Geographic. Kingdom Swim offers distances of 10 miles, 3 miles, 1 mile, ¼ mile and 100 yards. The 10 mile swim will host two divisions, wet suit and non-wet suit. Long distance swimmers will leave at 9:00 am sharp from Prouty Beach, in Newport, head out of the bay, north to the border, around Cove Island and back. 3 milers will leave at 9:30 am. 1 milers will leave at 10:00 am. While they’re gone, the 1/4 mile and 100 yard swims will be run.

Swimmers are encouraged to register well in advance to help us plan for this event. Registration on line and more information is available.

Prizes will be offered for highest pledges, largest groups, biggest families, furthest traveled to the event, plus the fastest times. A special prize will be awarded to any one who spots and photographs our very own lake monster. This event is being run in conjunction with Kingdom Aquafest, a full weekend of fun activities on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. For more information on Kingdom Aquafest please check out its website: www.kingdomaquafest.com.

For more information on the Swim itself, contact Pete Kellaway or Julie Gunn at (802) 334-8511 or e-mail swim@orleansrecreation.org.
